What makes someone beautiful depends on your definition of beautiful. Dictionary.com defines beautiful as “having qualities that give great pleasure or satisfaction to see, hear, think about, etc.; delighting the senses or mind.” For me beauty is much more than skin deep. In fact what makes a person truly beautiful to me is what is not so evident on the first look. I believe a variety of variables makes an individual beautiful.

1. Smile. I consider anyone that smiles at a complete stranger beautiful. A happy person is far more beautiful than an individual who is attractive, but cold. Everyone’s always beautiful with a smile on their face

2. Self-confidence. Confidence and the way a person carries themselves always makes a person more attractive. Confident people also usually tend to more pleasant toward others. The most unattractive person can be beautiful if they have self-confidence and have a beautiful personality. Having self-confidence automatically makes you more desirable. Self-confidence allows you to be happy with who you are.

3. Kindness. One of the most common responses to kindness is gratitude. People appreciate what we’ve done for them. Our kindness is very attractive, so they want to be around us and actually seek us out. The Buddha lists this as one of the eleven impacts of loving kindness, but he put it even more strongly, saying: “Loving kindness will make people love you.”

4. Compassion. When we look for kind deeds, beauty, and the opportunity for kindness, we’ll find that we are more compassionate and more tolerant. As we practice empathy, it opens our heart to others.

5. Love. My boyfriend once said, “I do not love you because you are beautiful; You are beautiful because I love you!”

6. Ability to Laugh at oneself. Having the ability to laugh at yourself makes you beautiful. Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.

Let me know what you think makes someone beautiful.
